STOCKTON has thrown its hat into the ring to become a base for more Government jobs as part of plans to overhaul the High Street once again. Councillors will vote on borrowing an extra £5m for the bold country park vision where the Castlegate Shopping Centre now sits. The 1970s centre, which it bought in 2019, will be demolished early next year to make way for the ambitious £37m park featuring cascading steps down to the river, and a new council HQ at the southern end of the High Street. Office space is also part of the bargain – and Stockton Council chiefs believe spaces on the banks of the Tees could be prime for Whitehall jobs shifting north.

Queensland is reimposing border declarations for people travelling into the state from Victoria, but Acting Health Minister Steven Miles said it was too early to declare Melbourne a hotspot following the outbreak at a quarantine hotel.
Mr Miles said the changes would come into affect from 1:00am Saturday.

. It is too early from our perspective to declare a hotspot in Melbourne because all of those cases at this stage were contracted within the hotel quarantine on level three, Mr Miles said.
Ambitious plans for Teesside town centres revealed AMBITIOUS efforts to buy up swathes of a town and make improvements to others centres across Teesside have been unveiled. Leaders at Stockton Council will vote on a raft of new schemes next week – including taking control of Billingham town centre, a one way system in Norton, and extra borrowing for the £37m “riverside park” plan to replace the Castlegate Shopping Centre. Chiefs will agree to borrow up to £10m as part of moves to regenerate Billingham before negotiating a price on land including the West Precinct building as well as the nearby car park.

With only a few matches and no individual tournament to close out the season, the motivation has to come from different places for the defending Division III champions.
Yet, there the Bobcats were on Saturday morning, taking on the Mascoma Royals with the same intensity and focused attitudes that has helped the team become a force throughout the state.
